Rising Stars, Inc. is proud to announce they will continue to honor the life and career of Tyrone Green through the continuation of programs he held most dear to his heart.
Coach Green was always one of Rising Stars, Inc. most avid supporters and an original founding member of the the organization. “Tyrone Green passed away in April 2014 at the age of 63, but his legacy will live on both in memory and in programs he left us,” vowed Rising Stars, Inc. President and long-time friend, Paul Savramis. For over four decades, Green had been a friend and colleague not just to Savramis but to many in the Rising Stars, Inc. community. By helping to build a partnership between Rising Stars, Inc. and the Long Island City YMCA, he was able to fulfill his lifetime dream of giving back to the areas he called home .
Green’s motto was that “It takes a village to raise a child.” His work with children earned him numerous accolades, including the prestigious Lewis Hine Award as advocate and leader of NYC youth. Tyrone inspired youth to show dedication to hard work and he instilled a desire to learn. While coaching in a game, he always expressed the necessity of getting a good education and encouraged the students to seek out community-service projects that would help their friends, family members and neighbors.
Thanks to Green’s encouragement and support, Rising Stars, Inc. has reached more children and provided them a safe haven to explore their academic and athletic pursuits.
Each year, Rising Stars, Inc. and the Rising Stars Youth Foundation produce a gala at the New York Athletic Club that honors the achievements of many of its most loyal advocates. A genuine and familiar atmosphere, this event is an opportunity for like-minded community leaders to join forces and make lasting connections.
